New Security Measures on Outgoing Mail

Who: New Security measures on all mail weighting more than 16ozs. This includes: all letter mail, small packets, parcels and EMS.
What are staff expected to do? Counter staff are to examine all mail items weighing over 16 oz prior to the items being sealed for posting. Please note that this doesn't not effect mail under 1lb and all of said items over the 1lb needs a return address.
When: Effective Thursday, 18 November 2010.
Where: all post offices - for all mail weighing more than 1lb are to be examined prior to posting.
Why: heightened security measures on mail coming into the United States due to recent terrorist treats to air transportation.
Also: Residents should note that many airlines and countries worldwide have banned or restricted the shipment of parcels and cargo from or transiting through Yemen and Somalia. Such actions will negatively impact the movement of mail from these countries for the foreseeable future.
