Published 6th August 2006, 4:3pm

The General Post Office will be undergoing renovations and post box upgrades beginning the weekend of 1 July.

Renters of boxes of 136-315, 716-915, 1965-2225 and 2379-2632 are asked to collect their mail before 4.45 p.m. Friday, 30 June, to facilitate the improvements. Uncollected mail will be removed from the box at 4.45 p.m. and secured.

New post boxes will be installed over the long weekend and customers will get a new lock and key. All box renters are asked to collect their new post box key and mail from the Post Box Rental counter inside GPO the week of 4 July, between 8.15 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday.

Public Works Department is responsible for the renovations. The repairs will be both internal and external and are expected to be ongoing for several months. They will include a new roof, exterior painting, air conditioning, and dealing with an internal termite problem.

"All services will remain the same. As much as possible, we are trying to minimise any inconvenience to our customers. We are asking our customers to bear with us while the boxes are being changed and the facility upgraded," Postmaster General Sheena Glasgow said.
