Late or lost mail
As safe and secure as we are, we're always striving to get better. To help us improve, please let us know if you think an item of your mail might be lost. This page will give you some key tips on how to proceed.
Every one of the 40,000 items we deliver each day is important to us because we know how important it is to you. We aim to handle all letters and parcels with the utmost care. Unfortunately, sometimes items can go astray.
If you think your post is late or has been lost, then we want to hear from you. Being able to locate a single item of ordinary mail is often difficult without a tracing number. Postal administrations overseas will not usually search for an item of mail it if does not have a traceable barcode number on it. So, before you contact us, please take a look at the list below for some of the more common reasons that mail is sometimes delayed.
Incorrectly addressed mail
An incomplete or incorrect address will cause delays – an item could even be delivered to the wrong address! Please double-check addresses before you send letters or parcels.
Try to ensure that whoever sends you mail knows your full address, including the postcode, and writes the address clearly and in the correct place on the letter or parcel.
The most common reason for delivery delays is when an item is addressed to a street address instead of a P.O. box number. Find out more about correctly addressed mail from the CIPS Addressing Guide.
Check your postcode
A postcode makes sorting and sending your mail quicker and easier. Make sure you include a postcode whenever you send mail.
You can find a postcode using our online postcode finder. It is simple to use – just type the Post Office and P.O. box number and it will give you the postcode.
Post that is redirected to your new address requires our extra attention, which can delay its arrival.
Redirecting mail is a hassle-free way to ensure that you still receive important post even after you’ve moved your home or business. However, because the mail needs to be sent to an address different from that written on the letter or parcel, it can take a little longer to arrive.
Please allow an extra day or two in addition to the usual posting times for redirected mail to arrive. If your mail still hasn’t arrived in that time, please let us know.

Cayman Islands Postal Service standards of delivery
Local mail posted on Grand Cayman by 3 p.m. Monday to Friday will be delivered to any Grand Cayman postal destination within 2 workings days. Mail posted in Cayman Brac & Little Cayman by 3 p.m. Monday to Friday will be delivered to any Cayman Islands postal destination within three days.
Missed drop-off times
If you’re sending mail, you’ll need to get it to us in by 3 p.m. Monday to Friday. Otherwise your mail probably won’t get processed until the following working day.
If you’re posting mail at a Post Office, the last collection will be at 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday. Last collections for Post Boxes vary from area to area, but collection times should be clearly marked on each Post Box.
The content of the package you are sending is on the prohibited list
Unfortunately we are unable to deliver everything you post. Please check first before you send your next letter or parcel.
While we aim to deliver everything that is brought to the Post Office for mailing, there are restrictions regarding what can be sent in the post. Each country sets its list of prohibited items; the onus is on the customer to be aware of that list when sending to a particular country. For example, we cannot deliver flammable or toxic liquids or cigarette lighters and illegal drugs. While you may not think you’d ever try to mail something like that, be aware that most paints fit into this category.
Ultimately the safety of our staff and of the general public is foremost in our minds. If we discover items in the post that could be harmful to employees or members of the public or that are prohibited by law, they may be confiscated by the relevant authorities such as Customs or the Royal Cayman Islands Police or dispose of them ourselves. prohibited list.
Please be aware that the Cayman Islands Postal Service does not deliver on public holidays. The following days are classed as public holidays.
